HIGHLY ACCLAIMED MĀORI SINGER SET TO PERFORM ON MAUI

Māori singer Maisey Rika will perform at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center

WAILUKU, HAWAI‘I – Māori singer and songwriter Maisey Rika, having just ended touring as the opening act for GRAMMY® artists John Legend and India Arie, will share her own award-winning talents at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) a few weeks into 2015. Maisey will be accompanied by her brother, J.J. Rika. The January 17 performance will also feature Hawai‘i Island talent, Hāwane Rios.

Rika, loved by many in her home country of New Zealand, has bridged her deep talents as an artist and a Māori to create a easy on the ear blend of soul, R&B, jazz and acoustic tones with te reo Māori – her native tongue. Recently, this merging of cultures led to a collaboration with other Māori rising stars, Stan WalkerRia Hall and Troy Kingi

The event is presented by Maui-based Island Soul Entertainment. “She is such a source of inspiration for many in the Pacific, and certainly for her Polynesian cousins in Hawai‘i. The opportunity to have her grace us with her talent on Maui was an opportunity too good to miss,” said Karey Kapoi, president of Island Soul Entertainment.

The event, slated for Saturday, January 17, will be the only Hawai‘i performance on this trip. Tickets are $25 and $35 and can be purchased online at MauiArts.org or by calling the MACC Box Office at (808) 242-SHOW. Doors open at 7:00pm and show starts at 7:30pm.
